Basic Mountain bike course

This course is for those who want to learn the most important basics of mountain biking. During the course you will experience how fun it is to ride a mountain bike when you get the right technique.

The basic mountain bike course is suitable for anyone who wants to enjoy mountain biking in the forest by feeling safe and confident on their mountain bike. You will learn how to position yourself on the bike, how to handle the adjustable saddle, shifting and braking techniques.

  • Price: 1 595 incl. lunch, small breakfast and coffee.
  • Time: 10:00 – 15:00.
  • Dates autumn 2025: 31 Aug, 20 Sep, 5 Okt.
  • One-day course: bring your own bike or rent from us.

The course is for adults of all ages or for young people accompanied by an adult. The basic course is also available as a girls’ course, see Grundkurs mountainbike tjejer. We divide the participants into smaller groups, maximum 7 people per coach.

You have completed our taster course, Prova-på mountainbike alternatively, you have done some mountain biking before, or are very used to cycling on a regular bike.

  • Positioning on the bicycle.
  • Use of “dropper post”.
  • Front wheel lift, brake technique, shifting, simple cornering.
  • Cycling uphill and downhill.
  • Great cycling on moderately difficult trails.

Instruktuctors: All Mountainbikeskolan’s coaches are trained through our instructor training programme.

Schedule: If you arrive a little earlier, about 20 minutes before the start of the course, there will be breakfast, coffee and sandwiches, and you have time to arrange your rental bike.

The course starts with a meeting and review of the day’s schedule and then we cycle off for technique training. Back at lunch, we offer tasty and well-prepared, vegetarian and locally sourced, food from our Restaurant, Kafé Källtorp. After lunch, we go out on a lovely trail ride to apply all the technique tips in practice. We end the day at Mountainbikeskolan to summarise the day over a coffee.

  • We recommend that you wear knee pads, which can be purchased in our shop on site or hired when booking.
  • You cycle with normal sporty clothes, long trousers if it is cold and short trousers if it is warm. You wear normal shoes, trainers or flat-soled shoes, for the best grip on the pedals. Gloves can be useful, but are not essential.
  • We recommend that you use flat pedals, not click-in pedals, during the course. It will be much easier to dare to try all the steps when you feel that you can easily put your foot down.
  • If you do not have a modern mountain bike with a dropper post, i.e. a saddle that can be raised and lowered, it may be better to rent a mountain bike during the course. You can choose between a mountain bike with front suspension or full suspension with damping both front and rear, a little more comfortable and safer. Mountain bikes are booked on this page.
  • Mountainbikeskolan has Stockholm’s largest bike rental of mountain bikes in case you prefer to rent a bike instead of owning your own bike.

  • Venue: Meeting point is Mountainbikeskolan / Kafé Källtorp, Ältavägen 105 in Nacka. We have a limitied number of parking spaces that are free for those who attend the course. Bus 401 and 821 stop just outside the enclosure, bus stop Källtorp.
  • Make new cycling friends: During the course you will get to know other students. We arrange for everyone who wants to sign up to a ‘buddy list’. There are usually groups on Facebook or WhatsApp, so you can stay in touch with your group and meet up for mountain biking even after the course.
  • 10% off in the shop for course participants: Mountainbikeskolan has a shop with bicycle equipment such as helmets, arm and knee protectors, gloves, tubes, tires, pumps, etc. As a course participant you have a 10% discount on everything in the shop during the bike tour day. Mountainbikeskolan is a Trek dealer and has a wide range of rental bikes of all Trek mountain bike models.
  • About us: Mountainbikeskolan started in 2014 and has been running mountain bike courses ever since. Mountainbikeskolan has a garden café and a garden with its own greenery, berries, fruit, vegetables and herbs. There is also a bike park. Mountainbikeskolan organizes cycling events and dinners for companies and groups who enjoy good food and great cycling.
