Patrik Boman Seven Piece Machine-
Källtorp JAZZ & SOUND

Some bands have the ability to create a world of their own, and Patrik Boman’s septet – better known as Seven Piece Machine – is just such a band. This isn’t just jazz; it’s an atmospheric journey through smoky back streets, fictional detective stories and a groove that you can feel throughout your entire body.

The group made a huge impact on the Swedish jazz scene at the turn of the millennium when their debut album was awarded the prestigious Gyllene Skivan (Golden Disc) award. Patrik Boman, one of the country’s most sought-after and reliable bassists, leads the band with a hand firmly rooted in the jazz scene of the 1950s and 1960s, but with his eyes firmly fixed on the horizon. It is music that bubbles with excitement, energy and cinematic elegance.

After a long hiatus, Seven Piece Machine is back – hungrier than ever. With a heavy mix of funk, blues and soul, packaged with big band muscle but with the agility of a septet, they continue to fascinate both critics and audiences alike. Their sound has often been likened to a jazz version of film noir, where each song tells its own story.

The band consists of: Patrik Boman – Double Bass & Bandleader, Hampus Adami – Trombone, Fredrik Lindborg – Clarinets & Saxophones, Tobias Wiklund – Trumpet/Cornet, Anders Ekholm – Tenor & Soprano Saxophone, Carl Orrje – Piano, and Harry Wallin – Drums.

Patrik Boman (Bass & Bandleader): Patrik Boman (born 1964) began his journey with the double bass at the age of 14 and entered professional life at 22 in the legendary Lars Sjöstens quartet. With a solid education from the music academies in Malmö and Stockholm, crowned with a master’s degree, he has established himself as one of the country’s most versatile musicians with over 80 recordings to his credit.

His list of achievements extends far beyond the country’s borders. As a producer and arranger, he was behind the huge successes When Did You Leave Heaven and Back to Earth with Lisa Ekdahl, albums that sold over 600,000 copies. His successes took Patrik all the way to Hollywood, where he not only contributed music but also appeared in the film Town and Country alongside stars such as Warren Beatty and Diane Keaton.

Over the years, he has toured all over the world and shared the stage with international giants such as Benny Golson, James Moody, Stacey Kent and Clark Terry. But it is above all in his own group, Seven Piece Machine, that his personal compositional talents really blossom. After a hiatus, the band is now back with its unique blend of funk, blues and soul – delivered with the agility of a septet and the punch of a big band.

Hampus Adami (Trombone): One of the country’s most exciting up-and-coming names, who has already made his mark at the top. He was awarded the prestigious Faschingvänner scholarship in 2023 and is often heard in contexts such as the Norrbotten Big Band and with artists such as Nils Landgren.

Fredrik Lindborg (Clarinets & Saxophones): He has won numerous awards (including the Lars Gullin Scholarship) and is known for his enormous joy of playing. Fredrik has a unique ability to channel jazz history into a modern expression and also leads his own groups such as LSD (Lindborg, Sjöstedt, Daniel).

Tobias Wiklund (trumpet/cornet): has been awarded the JazzBrazz scholarship and nominated for the Danish Music Awards. He also plays regularly with the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra and Fire! Orchestra. In addition to jazz, he has collaborated with artists such as Håkan Hellström. With his own acclaimed albums and international tours, he has established himself as one of the most prominent soloists in the Nordic region.

Anders Ekholm (Tenor & Soprano Saxophone): A musician with a rare tone and depth. Anders has a long career behind him, collaborating with everyone from Fläsket Brinner and Ewan Svensson to international guest appearances, and his playing often forms the emotional core of the band’s horn section.

Carl Orrje (Piano): Raised in a family of musicians and educated in both New York and Stockholm, Carl is known for his lyrical and harmonically rich playing. He has played with ‘everyone’ in Swedish jazz and has also released several acclaimed albums under his own name, often focusing on bebop and cool jazz.

Harry Wallin (Drums): A drummer with an unfailing swing and a musical sensitivity that few can match. Harry has been a fixture in the Swedish jazz world for decades and has collaborated closely with names such as Bernt Rosengren and Krister Andersson.
